Seaweed Pressing

    
I was introduced to seaweed pressing in a phycology course I took this spring. What fun! They make wonderful prints, notecards, and gifts. Learn more about the process here.

Microscopy

Pink-hearted hydroid (Ectopleura crocea), found in a tidepool on Appledore. A beautiful, tender creature. I spent hours in the lab observing the gentle movements of its tentacles. Captured with an iPhone via dissecting scope.
Evadne nordmanni, a marine crustacean common here in the Gulf of Maine in the spring. Captured with an iPhone via compound microscope (40x)

Doto coronata, or Crowned Doto, an unusual find! A species of nudibranch that feeds on hydroids (I found this one on the Ectopleura). Captured with an iPhone via dissecting scope.
